Hong Kong counts more than two hundred outlying islands, and some lie barely half an hour from Central by ferry. Step off the pier and the city's noise drops away: car-free village lanes, temples to sea goddesses, stilt houses over tidal channels, beaches with BBQ pits, and seafood restaurants where the day's catch sits on ice by the door. One island per day is the right pace — the point is the slowing down.
