Twelve days is enough for a rewarding Taiwan rail journey if the route is selective: Taipei and the north, one central stop, the southern cities and a measured return. It is not enough for every mountain, island and east-coast detour. Build around the official railway and high-speed rail networks, reserve popular trains early, and keep a weather buffer for typhoons, earthquakes or east-coast service changes.
