Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is a highland journey through monasteries, grasslands, river valleys and stone-walled villages in southern Gansu. Xiahe and Labrang offer the most accessible cultural introduction; Langmusi and Zhagana require longer mountain-road transfers. The useful unit is a five-to-seven-day loop, not a rushed list of landmarks. Altitude, construction and weather must remain part of the plan.
