Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang and the city behind the old saying "above there is heaven, below there are Suzhou and Hangzhou." Its heart is West Lake — a calm sheet of water ringed by temples, tea hills and willowed causeways, free to walk at any hour. Around it sits a modern city of metro lines and glass towers on the Qiantang River, still growing tea in the valleys behind the shore.
