Kaohsiung is a warm southern port city where harbour warehouses, contemporary arts, ferries, light rail and old neighbourhood food fit naturally into a two- or three-day stay. The useful centre is not one landmark: base near MRT or light rail, spend one day around the harbour and Yancheng, and choose a second day for Cijin, museums or a slower neighbourhood route.
